Murray Bevan is a founding shareholder of the firm and concentrates his practice in the fields of government affairs, energy, health care, telecommunications and public utilities law.
Over the course of his private sector career Mr. Bevan has designed and successfully implemented countless Government Affairs strategies for clients seeking to change existing laws or regulations, obtain state or federal funding or to achieve other business objectives. Mr. Bevan has successfully advocated for clients before the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (“BPU”) serving as lead counsel on a major telecommunications merger, obtaining favorable rulings on regulatory and compliance matters, and successfully approving changes in ownership and control for BPU regulated industries. He has also drafted and negotiated Power Purchase Agreements, telecommunication and energy tariffs, renewable energy procurement contracts and various energy and utility service contracts.
Mr. Bevan has been a Registered New Jersey Government Affairs Agent (Lobbyist) for over 20 years, representing clients before the New Jersey State Legislature and its Administrative Agencies. He has been listed among New Jersey's top ten lawyer/lobbyists for over a decade. On issues as diverse as New Jersey’s Health Care Reform Initiative and that state’s efforts at Energy Deregulation, he has extensive experience establishing and participating in coalitions designed to influence public policy and resolve conflicting positions.
In addition to his advocacy efforts for state and national trade associations, he also serves as counsel providing these groups with legal advice and assistance on non-profit law, matters of governance, board members roles and responsibilities, annual convention and trade show negotiations and contract review.
Mr. Bevan served in a variety of positions both in and out of government prior to entering the private practice of law. He was the Vice President of Government Relations and Regulatory Affairs for the New Jersey Hospital Association and served a six year term with the New Jersey BPU. During that time, he was Chief of Staff to Board President, Christine Todd Whitman, a former Governor of New Jersey. Mr. Bevan also worked for the Counsel's Office of former Governor Tom Kean.
Mr. Bevan holds a B.A. from Georgetown University with honors, an M.A. in Public Administration from the University of Wisconsin, and a J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law.
Mr. Bevan is active in local charities and serves on the Board of Trustees of the Muhlenberg Foundation.
