Anthony J. Zarillo, Jr. is a founding shareholder and chairs the Litigation and Insurance Industry practice groups of the Firm.

Tony is both a litigator and counselor to clients. He believes that in order to best represent a client, an attorney must take time to learn that client’s business and understand its goals. Tony is equally adept at representing his clients in a courtroom or in a meeting to achieve a win-win result. In litigation, Tony focuses on his clients’ business interests, recognizing that certain cases may call for an alternative dispute resolution, such as arbitration or mediation.  Tony handles each dispute as one headed to trial, recognizing that such preparation and commitment are necessary if the matter is to be reasonably compromised or successfully adjudicated.
 

Tony’s litigation experience is both deep and broad. He has handled all manners of complex commercial and business disputes, including insurance coverage, contract, warranty, errors and omissions, collection, and computer software lawsuits. Tony recently represented a large corporate client with respect to a state government inquiry on privacy and consumer rights and related federal court lawsuits. His litigation practice also extends to the defense of personal injury lawsuits as well as employment discrimination and other civil rights claims before both courts and administrative agencies.  

Representation of clients in insurance industry matters has been a large part of Tony’s practice over two decades and includes both insurance coverage counseling and litigation. He has extensive experience representing clients in connection with both first and third-party coverage disputes. He is currently national property and first-party coverage counsel for an international insurer and regularly litigates matters involving a wide-variety of claims for them. Tony also handles bad faith and unfair claims practices litigation involving policyholders, primary and excess insurance carriers. His insurance industry experience includes the representation of insurance companies, and other clients in matters involving insurance brokers, agents and other insurance intermediaries and regulatory agencies.

In addition to insurance industry matters, Tony regularly represents the Firm’s telecommunication and energy clients. He recently represented Firm clients before the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities in two large utility merger proceedings, including securing regulatory approval of his client’s acquisition of another major telecommunications company.

Tony’s role as counselor extends to advising clients in the areas of local and state government law and election law and regulation and includes service as general counsel to a county municipal utilities authority.

Tony was previously a partner at a large regional firm, and earned his law degree from Georgetown University, where he served as Assistant Business Editor of the Georgetown International Environmental Law Review. He received his B.A., magna cum laude, from Boston College.

He is admitted to practice in New Jersey, the District of Columbia, New York, the United States District Courts for the District of New Jersey, the District of Columbia, and the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York and before the United States Courts of Appeals for the Second and Third Circuits. Mr. Zarillo is a member of the American, New Jersey State, New York State, and Morris County bar associations. He is also a member of the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel and the Defense Research Institute. His peers named Mr. Zarillo as one of New Jersey's Super Lawyers in 2006 and 2007.
